Overview (English)
GitHub's coding assistant, integrated into VS Code, JetBrains, Neovim and github.com itself. Covers inline completion, chat, and an agent mode that can work through issues and open pull requests. Its advantage is proximity: it lives inside the platform where the code and the review process already are.
Our take (English)
The pragmatic choice for teams already on GitHub.
Where it wins: inline completion quality and integration depth. Because it sits in the platform, it can reference issues, pull requests and repository history in ways standalone tools cannot. The free tier is genuinely usable, which is rare.
Where to be careful: it is less capable than Cursor or Claude Code on complex multi-file reasoning — the difference shows on tasks that need genuine architectural understanding rather than local completion. Also, model choice is constrained compared with BYOK tools.
Verdict: an easy, low-friction starting point, especially in an organisation that already pays for GitHub. If you are pushing hard on agentic coding, you will outgrow it.
